You Are Invited

At some time or another have we not all received a card and inside it read, “You Are Invited” in big bold letters? We check our calendars. We start to think about what we will wear and how to fashion our hair. Who will we take? How will we travel there? If it is a charity event, how much do the tickets cost? So many questions and plans to make.

There are several types of parties that we can be invited to, birthdays, anniversaries, graduations, retirements and more. Some parties do not even need a reason. There have been parties to which I was aware but was not invited. The party I am speaking of now—everyone is invited. We do not need to check the calendar because there is not a date that we can attach to it. We do

not need to concern ourselves with clothes or hair. The ticket requires no money. We cannot take anyone with us; we can only accept this invitation for ourselves. But we must RSVP and soon.

Invitation to the Grandest Gala of the Galaxy

If we were to receive the invitation to this party, it might read something like this:

Who is the Host?

John 3:16 (NIV) says, For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. Because of His great love, grace, and mercy, God the Father sent His only son to die for us. Jesus was born of a virgin, lived a sinless life, and was the only acceptable sacrifice for our iniquity. He willingly left the majesty of heaven to endure betrayal, denial, beatings, humiliation, and to even die on a cross. Even then, Jesus said in Luke 23:34, Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing. But this is not the end. He rose again on the third day defeating sin and death. His resurrection restores us to the Father. There is no greater love. John 15:13 states, Greater love has no one than this, that he lay down his life for his friends.

How can we attend?

We simply need to ask Jesus into our heart. Ask Him to forgive us for our transgressions and make Him the Lord of our life by turning away from sin. Start a relationship now with the One with whom we will spend eternity in heaven. No matter what we have done, He wants to extend His mercy to us and pardon us, but we must ask Him.

Jesus will be our escort, and His grace is our free ticket to enter the gates of heaven. He will arrange our transportation. He will clothe us with His pure righteousness that will sparkle beyond the brightest ballroom gown. He is standing at the door of our hearts with the invitation. We are invited. Will we attend?

If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins

and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. -1 John 1:9 (NIV)

Prayer

Dear Heavenly Father,

Thank You for Your mercy and grace. Thank You for Jesus. Thank You for Your desire to restore all of us to Yourself through the forgiveness of our sins. Father, I pray that You will bring hope to those who are hopeless, to those who feel they are too far from You to be saved. I ask that You pursue their hearts like You pursued mine. I also request that You chase the prodigal who accepted You in the past but has presently chosen to run in the opposite direction. I pray that all hearts will be penetrated by the Holy Spirit and that Jesus will transport all who accept Him to the grandest gala of the galaxy. Hallelujah and Amen.
